Last Monday I had the absolute pleasure of appearing on ‘The Student Parent Show’ with host, Cristina Cabral. Cristina runs the show, which airs every Monday 2-3pm on UWL’s ‘BLAST Radio.’ Monday’s topic was all about beauty and we had heaps to talk about!
A few weeks ago the remake of ‘Beauty And The Beast,’ staring the gorgeous Emma Watson premiered and both Cristina and I had the privilege of watching it. I was fully aware that the remake would not disappoint but it completely exceeded expectations, a truly phenomenal film.
I didn’t however, appear on the show just to talk about ‘Beauty And The Beast,’ (I certainly could have) but instead shared my beauty based, business venture with ‘BLAST’ listeners. Cristina invited me on the show to talk about my hair extensions business, ‘RHHairExtensions.’ I thoroughly enjoyed explaining why I decided to dive into the delights of hair extensions and how I managed to continue to thrive at University whilst doing this. My appearance on ‘BLAST’ allowed me to show listeners that you can also be successful, independent and above all passionate about other interests and endeavours whilst studying.
Once I had spoken about my personal journey, we began to discuss bullying. You’re probably wondering why we discussed this issue, when the theme of the show was all about beauty but it all tied in nicely.
Last week I came across a petition, created and pioneered by beauty icon, ‘Katie Price.’ Previously known to the nation as glamour model ‘Jordan,’ Katie has taken the beauty industry by storm, from her successful modelling career to her own range of perfumes and more recently, make-up. However, since the birth of her first son Harvey, (who is severely disabled and requires complex care) they have both have been targeted, almost constantly by bullies. I felt it was extremely important to talk about bullying as so many of us have been victim to it. Whether it’s online or in person: name-calling, threatening behaviour, or any form of mental or physical abuse, is bullying and perpetrators need to be punished. You don’t have to be a child to be bullied, unfortunately adults too, sometimes feel the need to belittle, intimidate and upset others.
It’s vital to speak out, if you or someone you know is being bullied. Even if you tell a friend, a parent or teacher, you’re doing the right thing; no one should suffer in silence.
I was delighted to discuss my adventures whilst highlighting such serious issues like bullying. The link to keep up to date with ‘Katie Price’s’ petition is available below.
